PS-Prep Description
DHS-FEMA in 2010 has issued the Voluntary Private Sector Preparedness Accreditation and Certification Program comprised of three Standards, BS-2599-2:2007, NFPA 1600:2010 and ASIS-SPC1:2009. These standards have similar requirements and each are based on an ISO Management System framework that aligns with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and other ISO standards. The PS-Prep program is designed to follow the ISO Accreditation and Certification process controlled by the ANAB-ANSI-ASQ organization. Organizations can choose to align with any one of these standards or use a combination to ensure their operational resiliency, although only one Standard can be applied for Accreditation and Certification. In the near future the ANAB will be issuing training guidelines to provide accreditation to certifying bodies – (Registrars) who will
certify organizations seeking PS-Prep Certification.
As with ISO Certification, the certification process can take months based on the organizations level of preparedness. Much of the delay is due to the time it takes to develop and implement the procedures, processes and documentation required for Certification.
